Find a Physician & Get Certified
Obtain a medical marijuana certification from your provider. A directory of physicians who can certify qualifying patients is available below.
Certifying conditions include:
Cancer, glaucoma, Crohn’s disease, anxiety/depression, PTSD, seizures, anorexia, insomnia, nausea, arthritis, ADHD, and chronic pain.
Get a PIN
You’ll receive a PIN number from your provider, also emailed to you from the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission.

Becoming a Patient Is as Easy as Walking Through the Door
Once approved by the medical program, you’ll be provided with a temporary Patient ID that can be printed directly from your computer. You’ll also receive a plastic ID card in the mail. Once you have your temporary or permanent ID, you can go straight to CommCan and make your first medical purchase.

Selecting a Personal Caregiver
You have the option of designating a personal caregiver to assist you with your medical use of marijuana.
After your registration has been approved by the Program, you may name up to 2 personal caregivers who are not currently designated by another patient — unless that personal caregiver is your immediate family member.

Renewing Your Medical Card
Four steps to renewing as a patient:
- Log Into Your Account — Head to the patient portal first. Log in with the username and password you originally used to register.
- Renew Early — You can renew your registration up to 60 days before expiration. Simply log into your patient portal, click Renew, and follow the necessary prompts.
- Update Information — Upload any necessary documentation and make changes to your name, address, or other vital information as prompted.
- Verify Your Patient Certification — If your certification has expired, you must visit your certifying health care provider.
