4/20 Origin

The day has finally come, 4/20 is among us. As we gear up for this exciting holiday, one can’t help but wonder, how did this all begin? How did 4/20 transform into the iconic term we know today? Let’s embark on a fascinating journey into history, shall we! 

The story of 4/20 dates back to the early 1970s in San Rafael, California. A group of high schoolers, nicknamed “The Waldos,” would meet up after school and smoke around 4:20. One day, the group was approached by a non “waldo” and was told of a secret cannabis garden along with a map. Although the patch was never found, the group set off on countless adventures and vowed to find it one day. The term was later popularized by the legendary band Grateful Dead. As years went on, the term “4/20” only became more synonymous with cannabis culture and is now one of the most commonly known cannabis slang terms.
